Kayden: The Past
Author Chelle Bliss
Published December 31st 2013 by Chelle Bliss
Kayden Michaels has a past filled with sex, addiction, and heartache. A past that he’s avoided sharing with the love of his life, Sophia, and held close to his core not risking rejection. Needing to get his addictions in check and gain control of his life for the sake of his family, Kayden is forced to confront his past and make amends for the path he’s walked.
Kayden must recount every carnal act and the betrayal from those he’s loved to identify the triggers that spur his addictions and overcome it all to be worthy of Sophia’s love – his sole reason to exist.
**(Note: CAN BE READ AS A STAND ALONE NOVEL, This is NOT a novella)**
Extended Excerpt ~ Prologue
I was an addict.
Sophia didn’t know this about me when we met – when I stole her heart.
I struggle every day with my sobriety, and Sophia is my compass. She’s what keeps me grounded and always points me in the right direction. She doesn’t nag or yell but smothers me in her love and understanding.
Sophia asked to hear my story, my past. She wanted to know everything about me…what led me to her. I gave her a condensed version – one that is closer to PG-13 compared to the NC-17 reality that I lived. No matter how much the person you love the most, the one who is the center of your universe asks about your past, you never give the full truth. I never want Sophia to compare herself to any of the women or experiences that I’ve had before her. Sophia is perfection in my eyes. No one could ever compare to her.
I’d like to say my life began again when I met Sophia, that I was given a clean slate. Sophia met me at the point in my life where I had given up on love. My life consisted of work and pleasure – pleasure from the unattached sexual relationships and the booze that had filled my nights.
When my life spiraled out of control, Sophia caught me in her web of security and love. She is my savior, the only thing that is true in my life. She can’t know my entire story. Who would want to know the true story of the love of their life, the father of their child?
The thought of Sophia being with another man makes my skin crawl and pisses me off. She’s mine, and I’d like to think that I’ve been the only man in her life and the first one to taste her, but I know I’m lying to myself. Ignorance is bliss, and I’d rather stay in the dark.
After our child was born, I thought it was necessary to get help to control my drinking. I needed to make sure I never walked down the path of self-destruction again. I had too much to lose. For the first time in my life, there was something more important than myself or even Sophia. There’s a tiny little life that depends on me and needs my love and adoration.
I didn’t want to go to group counseling – I’ve done that before, and it sucked; it wasn’t more than a temporary fix. I needed something to get to the root of my addiction and allow me to find other ways to cope with the pressures in life besides at the bottom of a bottle. The
counselor told me to write down the major events in my life – the ones that caused my drinking to go out of control or drove me to drink.
He said I needed to understand the cycle. What came first – the booze or the problems? He asked me to write a journal about my life. Everyone who I could remember that triggered my drinking, use of drugs, and events that were caused by my addiction that had an impact on my life. I didn’t see the use in writing it for someone else to read and analyze, but he said I would understand it in time.
Where do I start the tangled mess that was my life? Do I start with my first taste of booze, the first sniff of coke, or the crazy bitches I’ve experienced? There will be bits that I leave out; things I don’t want the world to know. I’ve included the ones that show what has molded me into the man I am today. The ones that will fill in the gaps on my troubled journey that Sophia and I overcame and show the depths of my depravity and addiction before Sophia walked into my life and turned my world upside down.
I’ll start at the beginning, what led me off the path of righteousness through my moment of self-destruction and finally salvation in the arms of a loving woman too good to be mine.
Short Excerpt ~ Explicit:
“Hey, where ya going?” she asked. “What about me?”
“I’m sure someone here would be happy to give you what you want. I got what I was looking for, babe.”
“You had me suck your cock and you’re just going to fucking leave me here?” she asked glaring at me with hatred so pure I could almost feel the fist she wanted to hit me with.
“I got what I came for. You were a total bitch to me for years; you don’t deserve what I’d give, how good I’d fuck you,” I said with my arms crossed against my chest.
“You’re a total cocksucker, Kayden,” she said poking me in the chest with each word to drive the point home.
“No, that would be you, babe,” I said with a smile, “Oh, and by the way, you have a little on your chin,” I said pointing at her face chuckling softly at the situation. I watched as she wiped her chin and I turned and walked away, leaving her there like she deserved.

Kayden: The Past by Indie Author, Chelle Bliss is Kayden’s story. Readers meet Kayden in Untangle Me, Bliss’ debut novel and book 1 of the, Love at Last Series. Kayden: The Past, can be read as a stand alone novel, but I would recommend reading it AFTER, Untangle Me. To me, it just seems to be the more natural order, and/or if you are planning on reading book 1, then it may spoil the ending for you.
Where Untangle Me, is Kayden and Sophia’s story of how the two met, Kayden: The Past , is all Kayden until the very end of the novel. The start of the novel begins with Kayden admitting he is an addict to drugs and alcohol. Readers find out that he is writing in a journal. I will leave it up to you to read and find out the reason for the journal writing. Just know that taking this first step in admitting his problem is the background for the novel. There are three basic influences on Kayden Michaels. They are, alcohol, drugs and sex.
Summer , right before the start of Kayden’s Freshman year in High School. He takes a bottle of Jack from his parents’ liquor cabinet and shares it with his buddies. Said buddies run like scared rabbits when his mom yells and comes looking for him, finding him red handed. As punishment his parents ground him for a week. Does Kayden learn his lesson…? What do you think, he is a teenager! He still drinks, but is just a little more careful so as NOT to get caught.
Time passes and it is the next school year. Kayden is now a Sophomore and has made the wrestling team. He is overjoyed at this. The wrestling uniform shows off his body and …his manhood. He is a tough wrestler to beat. Plus this also aids in getting more girls to like him. But, as as usual when life is great, something comes along to take you down a peg. For Kayden, this was a dare with his buddies. Leading to a very upset father picking him up from a police station and smacking him around. (Hmm… upset father, temper, hitting (vengeance maybe). Something to think on…
Soon after this incident it is just Kayden and his mother at home. Money is tight so he has to drop out of wrestling. This is a blow to Kayden mentally and emotionally. If he had kept it up he could have gotten a scholarship to college, he was that good. Unfortunately… sometimes life throws us a ‘shitball’, and this one landed right in Kaydens’ lap. His earlier drinking probably stemmed from adolescent curiosity, trying to be the cool guy heading to High School. But this, his father leaving the family and him losing the wrestling team/possible scholarship throws him into a spiral of bad decisions that will follow him for the rest of his life. The only good decision was that he decided that school was important, so he studied made good grades and graduated.
The night of graduation is the first time we read about an actual sexual act of Kayden’s. The reader reads about his first vengeful act against a woman. That woman being Mindy, a friends sister. Why? All I can say is READ the NOVEL!
With no hopes of going to college he got a job as a salesman. Kayden had a knack for this type of work. He was a very successful salesman. Here is where Kayden, and thus the reader meet Bridget. Bridget becomes the first ‘LOVE’ in his life. Now I can say one thing for Kayden, that being that when he is in a REAL RELATIONSHIP he is true to the woman in his life. He is not a cheater. Which is something that we wish all the woman in his life until Sophia could have said about them. Bridget was the first woman to take Kayden’s love for granted and break his heart. But don’t worry, he gets his revenge. Something you will notice a pattern of happening.
After Bridget, things are going pretty good for Kayden again. He has gotten a promotion at work, but again gets his life turned upset when he and his female boss flirt late one night. Just like the title of that chapter, ‘Don’t shit where you eat, or…’ Though maybe it should read, don’t take ‘coke’ where you work…
Curious yet, well you will just have to read all about his sexual adventures in the novel!
After Jessica is a one bathroom sex-plosion in the bathroom of the local strip club with Candy. A must read, and incredible scene. Some pretty wild happenings… (makes me wonder where all the authors ideas came from), some pretty adventurous activity. Maybe not to you, but it is to me! Loved it though, totally down and dirty!!! While at the strip club, Kayden meets Danielle. Danielle happens to be ‘dating’ his friend Ron. Don’t worry, there is more about her coming up.
Ron asks Kayden out with him and Danielle. They meet, have drinks, chat and even see someone they know for a rival team in High School. This guy is also in sales; sales of the illegal kind. This teaser explains how their night goes.
OK, so can you guess how Ron, Kayden, and Danielle spent part of the evening…
Kayden really does try to stay away from Danielle. I give him credit for resisting someone he wanted, as well as respecting his friend enough not to actively try and get involved with her. Fate had other plans. They do end up meeting each other again. From there a relationship takes hold. Kayden has now found ‘LOVE’ for the second time in his life. They are on fire together. Their sex is HOT!!! They drink and do drugs together, they are happy, life is theirs for the taking. Danielle even gives up her job and finds a new one for Kayden. I would call that love. But everlasting love was not theirs to be had. A great sadness makes its way into their relationship which is the ultimate fall of their relationship. Kayden even moves to a different state and trains for a new job for Danielle trying to get their marriage off to a new start, and the making of new memories. Maybe if this scenario had played a different song, maybe then it would have all worked out. Yet, with the drugs and alcohol something would have caused them to crash and burn. Kayden loves with his WHOLE heart. He wants to make the woman in his life happy. He never cheats on them, seems to get along with them, respects them, and would do anything for them. Yet, for some reason, his loves not only end the end step all over his heart, they literally rip it to shreds with their stilettos. They pierce and poke it, stomping all over it until there is no love, only a darkness and pain that can only heal with more alcohol and drugs. It really is sad that Kayden gets broken like this. But I guess if the women had actually talked matters out with him, instead of treating him the way they did, his story would be a different one… Though as usual, Kayden gets his revenge.
One really does not want to be on the receiving end of this particular part of his personality. I blame his father for creating this attitude in Kayden. I wonder just how much abuse Kayden endured from his father while growing up, and then the effect that his leaving had mentally and emotionally in Kayden. Frankly I do not believe his father was a good role model for Kayden past or present.
At this point in the novel Kayden is again starting life with a clean slate. His mother who remarried now lives in Florida. It takes a while but finally he get a new job. The season is now Fall. He likes that Fall in Florida is nothing like it is in Ohio where he grew up. It is nice and warm, even as Winter sets in. The job Kayden does requires that he call in and pass on information after every job he completes before heading to the next one on his list. This is where Jennifer comes into the story. She and Kayden begin texting more than just work information. She even introduces him to Facebook. From there he learns of other interesting websites to meet people. Jennifer is just one of Kayden’s pussy pals. They have a one night erotic adventure, neither have expectations or wanting a relationship. Just scratching a must needed itch. However, it is while in Florida that Kayden does meet Lisa. At first they chat on Facebook. They hang out, but only as FRIENDS first. But this friendship eventually turns into Lisa becoming the third woman that Kayden at first falls in ‘LOVE’ with. The relationship changes after Kayden moves in with her.
Lisa becomes this person that Kayden does not even recognize even more, but yet even in his unhappiness he continues to stay with her. One of my favorite parts is this,
This is what I am always doing to my husband when he is playing the, ‘block game’, aka Mindcraft. I mean I do not mind him being on it some, but not for hours, losing time and whole days while playing the silly thing. Maybe it just a wife thing or a me thing, there is work to be done and he is off in his whole little world. But Lisa was to controlling, not even letting him hang out with the guys, and checking his texts and so forth. A relationship is a give and take that needs to be equal among the parties involved. Lisa is more of a taker than a giver. Both Lisa and Kayden tried to get even with one another.
Only for Kayden it cost him more in the end than Lisa. Eventually sending him on to another new state and city to begin once again with a new life slate.
New Orleans is where Kayden really began to get his life together. He was able to get a job via word of a friend. He had no where to stay, so thank goodness the company offered housing. It is not the nicest of arrangements, as he is in an apartment with several other men . But he can live with it. He focuses on work, but at home at night he and the guys usually sit around drinking.
By now Kayden has had three relationships and three major heartbreaks. He is DONE with relationships. Even thought Kayden continues to drink he doesn’t do it to get drunk anymore. Plus he is off taking drugs now. At this stage of the game of life Kayden has reached his thirties and as he so cleverly puts it, ” ‘he is trying to get his shit together’ “. Though declaring off relationships he does however hook up later with a twenty-something year old that is in college. Carrie wants to focus on her studies, so whenever that itch needs scratching, she now has a standing ‘date’ with, Kayden. Near the very end of the novel this includes not only Carrie but April too.
The year is passing from the old into the new. And guess who calls Kayden…? You will never guess. Let me just share that it is one of his ‘loves’ from the past. If I say anymore you will know who it is…no giving it away!
Which leads the reader to the last chapters of Kayden’s story. How does that old saying go, save the best for last? Well Chelle Bliss does just that. When using Facebook myself to chat with her about her novel she remarked that I would not cry. Yet, being the emotional reader that I am these last chapters with Sophia and Kayden did find me shedding some very happy tears. Overall the ending was my favorite, favorite, favorite part. Finally Kayden found his true and REAL LOVE ❤
At this point is life is complete and his heart is overflowing with love and happiness. Oh my, may cry even while writing this. Excuse me, the screen is getting blurry, be right back…
OK, much better! Thank you. Now if you have read book 1, then you know that Sophia and Kayden have their own relationship issues. However, rather then focus on herself the way the others did in Kayden’s life, she choose to stick it out and talk it our. Sophia was there to provide support and encouragement when he needed it. That is how a relationship is supposed to be.
Kayden has smarts, he knows what his triggers are. Here at the end I am proud to hear him fess up to them. It really shows how much he has learned from his past. Now he will be able to have the future he has always wanted and deserved. In these last couple chapters all is brought to light, ending very happily!
I most definitely recommend this novel!!! 100+++++ percent!!!!!
It just amazes me how as a female writer Bliss writes so candidly and like the words are coming straight out of a mans brain. I enjoyed reading this novel. The material is very mature in content, so if you have trouble reading a novel that mentions cock, orgasm, and the F word a lot, well then, maybe this is not your speed.
5 Rosebuds -Writing Rating
Oh my gosh, this novel just begs for you to keep reading. The reader will be surprised and engaged on every page. This is a novel you will want to stay up all night to read!!! The reader is provided with the background to really connect and understand Kayden, how his past treated him, and how he treated himself in that past. Everyone deals with issues differently. I may not be happy when my hubs takes forever to get off the computer or forgets to pay a bill, but I still love him. Heck, half the time I want to slap him, the other half love and laugh with him. Kayden just found ‘LOVE’ in the wrong women before Sophia came into his life. He went for looks and how good they were in the sack instead of what was inside that person. What made them special, unique, and lovable. Therefore, he got too involved with women who were basically selfish, they only thought of themselves and their needs, not about Kayden and his needs. If they had issues with his drinking, then why let it continue? Why say something after the fact? Awesome Writing!
1 Teardrop – and that was a very happy tear at the end. Wonderful love story. Like I said, the ending was my FAVORITE!!!
5 Romance Raves- Oh, the sex was hot, hot, HOT!!!!! Kayden has skill and stamina when it comes to this act. He will give anything and everything a try. He aims to please both his partner and himself. WOW!!!
TRUE! TRUE! TRUE!
READ THIS NOVEL!!!!
